Herbert School (K-12) Chinook School Division

Herbert provides a high quality education from an integrated facility renovated in 1991. A bell tower and monument houses the cornerstone and school plaque from the original red brick Herbert School (1912-1991).

Approximately 250 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 attend from Herbert and area. Almost every year high school exchange students from around the world attend Herbert School to experience prairie living. The school has a dedicated staff which is quite involved with extra curricular activities such as sports and drama.

The school has a spacious library, special needs centre, natural science labs, home economics lab, local area network and modern computer lab; large industrial arts shop featuring woodworking, computer drafting, and digital photography; and a multi-purpose room.

The focal point of the school is the large main gym with multi-purpose flooring where volleyball, basketball, and badminton games are played. The school also takes part in golf, cross country, soccer, curling and track & field through the school year. Community events are regularly held, and drama takes place on the proscenium stage.

In the hallway, many sports trophies are a reminder of the competitive sports teams of the past and are a good sign for the future. The sports teams are known as the Laurels, representing the high academic and athletic standards expected here. Teams have won countless Divisional and District titles, and have competed at numerous provincial championships. Herbert was the 1985 1A 6-Man Football Provincial Champions; and the 1986, 2004, and 2005 1A Boys Basketball Provincial Champions. Several athletes have placed in the top-three at the Provincial Track & Field Championships. The 2000 senior girls volleyball team received a Provincial Sportsmanship Award.

Upon the walls we see the many Grade 12 class pictures. Numerous former students have gone on to achieve greatness.
